IPv6
Are you "6'd" yet? If not, contact KanREN to see how we can help!
Internet Protocol Version 6 is the next generation network protocol that will power The Internet well into the future. IPv6 solves many problems facing networkers today; not the least of which is depletion of the IPv4 resource pool.
KanREN's network has been IPv6 ready since February 26 2004; meaining KanREN runs two complete IP environments, one for IPv4 and one for IPv6. Maintaining both routing environments allows KanREN users to seamlessly transition to IPv6 as their organizational timelines allow.
KanREN members enjoy access to vast IPv6 address resources. If you can think of a service that needs BILLIONS of addresses, we have them available, routed, and ready for assignment.
Primary Advantages
Increased Address Space
While IPv6 brings many enhancements and new features to the table, its increased address space is the most widely known. IPv4 has a 32-bit address space (2^32). IPv6 on the othe hand has a 128-bit space (2^128).
Stateless Address Autoconfiguration
Devices connecting to IPv6 networks can discover the network and extract an available address without using DHCP; leading to fewer servers and lower system support costs.
KanREN: IPv6 Pioneers
KanREN staff participate in the Internet2 IPv6 Working Group. Working with groups at the state, regional, and national levels allows the KanREN network to always be cutting edge and ready for "the next big thing".
