KanREN is a non-profit (501(c)(3)), membership consortium of Kansas education institutions and other community anchors. Our membership includes all state universities as our key anchors members, K–12 schools, community colleges, private colleges and universities, public libraries, healthcare, local and county government as well as other community anchor institutions. KanREN’s primary mission is to provide a statewide data network and associated services, education and community tailored specifically to the needs of our unique membership organizations.

The ideal KanREN R&E Network Architect will have a proven track record of technical leadership and success in designing, evaluating, and implementing backbone and branch networks from conception to resolution. Our Network Architects must demonstrate in-depth knowledge of network engineering, concepts, and best practices, with operational experience in supporting a medium to large-scale service provider (SP) network. As a technical leader, Network Architects manage diverse stakeholder relationships (with both internal members and external vendors) as KanREN continues developing new services and delivering cutting edge technologies to our members. The ideal KanREN Network Engineer will have a proven track record of technical competence and success in implementing and troubleshooting complex network issues to resolution. Network Engineers must demonstrate in-depth knowledge of network engineering, concepts, and best practices, with operational experience in supporting a medium to large-scale network spanning a large geographical area. Network Engineers support other KanREN staff during the implementation of new protocols and services as KanREN continues delivering cutting edge technologies to our members. The ideal KanREN Network Administrator will have a proven track record of technical competence and success in LAN and WAN network support. Network Administrators must demonstrate in-depth knowledge of network operations tools (monitoring, ticketing, and communication tools) with operational experience in supporting both Layer 2 and Layer 3 network services from the OSI model. Network Administrators support other KanREN staff to operate the statewide network and maintain its stability and integrity. Network Administrators also troubleshoot deployed technologies as KanREN continues delivering cutting edge technologies to our members. The ideal KanREN Systems Engineer will have a proven track record of technical competence and success in deploying, troubleshooting, and supporting a range of server hardware and appliances as well as their associated software and services. Systems Engineers must demonstrate in-depth experience with a range of server-based platforms and authentication technologies. Systems Engineers support other KanREN staff by evaluating, selecting and deploying the best hardware and software to address any needs identified. The ideal KanREN Cloud Engineer will have a proven track record of technical competence and success in selecting, deploying, and supporting a range of cloud services and connection technologies, across multiple cloud operators (AWS, MS Azure, Google GCP, etc). Cloud Engineers must demonstrate in-depth knowledge of provisioning services inside cloud platforms with operational experience in supporting and administrating the same. we provide to our members and maintain the stability and integrity of those services from day-to-day. Cloud Engineers support other KanREN staff to operate the cloud services KanREN consumes as well as those we provide to our members and maintain the stability and integrity of those services from day-to-day.
