KanREN is now pleased to offer a cloud-based storage service. KanREN’s StormCellar storage service is designed and deployed to meet the needs of small to medium sized universities, colleges, schools and libraries.
StormCellar storage costs just 10¢/GB/mo. Members may purchase increments of 200GB at a time. For example, at the minimum buy-in of 200GB a member will pay only $240/year for 24×7 service. For larger needs 1TB costs only $1,200/year. That’s a great buy – competitive with the bargain basement storage providers, but featuring the safety, security and support of a 100% KanREN solution!
How It Works
KanREN’s StormCellar storage service is co-located at one of our backbone node locations. KanREN provisions StormCellar storage for members based on a monthly fee. Members may stream data on and off of the storage system using any of the supported protocols. KanREN StormCellar storage is intended for institution level deployment; we cannot provision for individual students, faculty or staff. We do not charge for or limit access to the service, but we expect the consortium to respect I/O resources are limited and work together to minimize contentions.

Reliability and Availability
KanREN will strive to achieve the greatest up-time and data integrity possible. KanREN’s members have emphasized data integrity over availability and we took that direction when designing the StormCellar storage service. While we believe both reliability and availability will be excellent, integrity will be of a higher priority in case of emergency.
The Fine Print
As a consortium, members are expected to work together in sharing I/O resources so that everyone receives their fair share of access to the service. This price is only good for members of KanREN, and may not be shared by members with non-members without prior permission from KanREN. While members may upgrade at any time, members may only downgrade services at the fiscal year boundary (July 1). We strongly recommend all sensitive data be encrypted before uploading to the StormCellar.

KanREN has been a trusted partner for our members since 1992. Infrastructure supporting StormCellar is 100% Kansas based; we don’t ship your data out-of-state just to save a buck. Member privacy and trust is simply too important. KanREN will never compromise or data mine the StormCellar.
How to Sign Up
To sign up for KanREN’s StormCellar storage service, contact the KanREN business office at 785-856-9800. We will verify the cost and dispatch an updated services memorandum addendum. Once the “paperwork” is in order, our systems staff will contact you with access credentials, and will assist in getting you running if help is needed. Once up and operational, charges will appear as a separate item on you next quarterly statement.
