KanREN is excited to announce that we are the first state Research and Education Network in the country to have joined eduroam.
eduroam (education roaming) is the secure worldwide federated network access service developed for the international research and education community. eduroam provides “per-user, per-session encrypted network access for visitors from participating institutions, without the need to gain guest credentials on arrival to an eduroam enabled location”. This means that eduroam users can join thousands of eduroam hot-spots with minimal hassle or data charges. Connecting to eduroam is as simple as logging into any wireless network (provided that the user has proper credentials) as eduroam supports “cross platform uniform access”.
eduroam is free to its users worldwide. The providers of eduroam hot-spots are making the service available to benefit all members of the research and education community. Joining eduroam is currently free for institutions as well. More information about how to get your institution connected to eduroam can be found here.
