- OpenFlow Enabled Switch Program
KanREN Data Communications Contract #06807 is an approved state contract. The Department of Administration, Board of Regents, Regents Institutions, State School for the Deaf, State School for the Blind and ‘political subdivisions’, including public K-12 school districts in Kansas are eligible to purchase off this contract. School districts can reference this state contract to purchase E-rate eligible services such as internet access through KanREN.
KanREN members can leverage a consortium VMWare Convenience Pricing Program to purchase VMWare products and services at a significant discount. Made possible through KanREN’s involvement in The Quilt, a national coalition of more than thirty research and education networks from across the country, this contract provides extremely competitive pricing for KanREN members on VMWare products, support subscriptions, and professional development services as well as Airwatch, a mobile device and application management solution. Fact Sheet for VMWare Consortium Purchasing Program
Internet2 recently changed the terms of their NET+ Services program, a nationwide Higher Education focused purchasing opportunity on certain services. Changes now allow KanREN Higher Education member institutions to participate, without any surcharges, fees, membership (and no extra charges to KanREN either). KanREN has helped several members sign up to take advantage of better pricing on the services they use through this program, and is happy to help other members get involved. A few of the subscriptions available thru this program are: Amazon Web Services; Box; CrashPlan; Duo Security; Microsoft Office 365 Education; OneCampus by rSmart; Splunk; 2SMS; LastPass; Philo; SkySync; among others, and the list is expected to grow. There is currently effort around adding CANVAS and other services. Questions? Send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org .
The OpenFlow Enabled Switch Program provides opportunities for our members to leverage a consortium initiative for network switching technologies. Each of the vendors below met the current set of preferred features and configurations as outlined in the RFP. Each demonstrated a willing to partner with the R&E community to create a new development platform around the ideas of OpenFlow and also provides a unique set of capabilities to contribute to a suite of switch options for regional and campus networks. A willingness to perform third-party interoperability testing with other OpenFlow-enabled switches was also a key selection criteria.
