Membership in KANREN is open to all accredited educational institutions and public libraries in the state of Kansas. Other community anchor institutions, research partners of existing members and state agencies are generally granted approval to join by the KANREN board of directors.

KANREN has only one class of membership, with one fee for all members, regardless of size or type.

The Kansas Research and Education Network (KANREN) work with the State of Kansas Department of Administration, along with alliances, partnerships, and membership status with other non-profit organizations such as The Quilt, Internet2 and others, provides opportunities for our consortium members to purchase advanced networking technology and services in a simplified manner, at a lower cost.

State of Kansas KANREN Data Communications Contract

KANREN Data Communications Contract #06807 is an approved state contract. The Department of Administration, Board of Regents, Regents Institutions, State School for the Deaf, State School for the Blind and “political subdivisions,” including public K–12 school districts in Kansas are eligible to purchase off this contract. School districts can reference this state contract to purchase E-rate eligible services such as internet access through KANREN.

VMWare Convenience Pricing Program

KANREN members can leverage a consortium VMWare Convenience Pricing Program to purchase VMWare products and services at a significant discount. Made possible through KANREN’s involvement in The Quilt, a national coalition of more than thirty research and education networks from across the country, this contract provides extremely competitive pricing for KANREN members on VMWare products, support subscriptions, and professional development services.

Akamai Enterprise Threat Protection Consortium Cotract

KANREN members enjoy access to an aggressive consortium discount for Akamai’s Enterprise Threat Protection (ETP) suite of service offerings. ETP provides an effective layer of DNS-based malware, phishing, and botnet protection.

Internet2/CAP Higher Ed Net+ Services Open Subscription

Internet2 recently changed the terms of their NET+ Services program, a nationwide Higher Education focused purchasing opportunity on certain services. KANREN has helped several members sign up to take advantage of better pricing on the services they use through this program, and is happy to help other members get involved. A few of the subscriptions available thru this program are: Amazon Web Services, Canvas, Box, CrashPlan, Duo Security, Microsoft Office 365 Education, OneCampus by rSmart, Splunk, 2SMS, LastPass, Philo, SkySync, among others. The Net+ program is constantly evolving to better meet platform and service needs of the community. Check the current list of Net+ participants.

Since 1992, KANREN has provided unique opportunities to connect beyond physical network connectivity.
