It is a new and exciting era for KanREN (the Kansas Research and Education Network).  For the first time the 20 year history of the organization; KanREN will offer services to institutions that are not members of the consortium.  The first services that KanREN are pleased to announce areScalable Video, and KanREN’s Cloud Storage: StormCellar.

KanREN’s interest in scalable video came as a result of over a year of intense research and testing.  KanREN aims to provide innovative, scalable video that always looks great.  The KanREN scalable video service, powered by Vidyo™, stands apart from any other option currently available in the state.  It no longer matters if a user has a dedicated room system or an iPad, a connection to KanREN or regular Internet service, KanREN’s scalable solution works anytime, anywhere on any platform.

KanREN’s Cloud Storage Solution: StormCellar was created in response to demand from the membership.  It was designed specifically to meet needs of small to medium sized universities, colleges, schools and libraries.  The storage service is located on the KanREN network backbone, and that means that data uploaded to StormCellar NEVER leaves the state of Kansas.  KanREN’s highest priority is keeping your data safe, and in the state.

KanREN was founded in 1992 to create a statewide backbone network to extend Internet access to all Kansas higher education institutions.  20 years later, KanREN is as committed as ever to providing innovative technology and network solutions to research and education communities in the state of Kansas.

KanREN is a non-profit consortium of colleges, universities, school districts and other organizations in Kansas, organized for the purpose of facilitating communication among them, and providing them with with connectivity to the Internet and other online resources via a statewide network.  The purpose of KanREN is to provide innovative, cost-effective network technology and attention to individual member needs.
